THE CRYING STONE

Up on a far away hill in Borneo, there lived a poor widow and her arrogant daughter. She was very pretty, but her behaviour was far from good. The girl was lazy. She never helped her mother doing the house works, but always busy preening her self each and everyday. She was really spoiled that everything she asked for had to be given. Evertime she asked for something to her mother, she forced her to grant it for her. She didn’t care about her mother’s pain of working day and night only for getting something to eat,
One day, the poor widow and her daughter walk down the hill wanted to buy some things in the market. It was so far that they felt quite tired. The spoiled girl walked arrogantly in her most beautiful suits and preen herself  just to get people amazed of her. Meanwhile, her mother walked behind her back, wearing such a dirty and ugly shirt, and holding some baskets in her hands. Since they both lived far away from people, there’s no one knew or even realized that they were actually mother and daughter. As soon as they arrived at the village, many villagers began to stare at them. They were all dazzled by the girl’s beauty, especially all the village boys who couldn’t stop looking at her face. The girl’s appearance was really contrast with the one walking behind her, that it made people to wonder. One boy, finally came approaching the girl and asked, “ hey pretty. Is she  your mother?” and the girl answered, “No, she is my maid.” The mother and daughter then walked again. Not so far, another boy came and asked, “hey sweety, is she your mother?”. “No, she is not.” answered the girl, and with the head up she added, “she is my slave.” Those were how she answered people’s questions about her mother. She treated her as if she was her maid.
To hear her daughter’s answer at first, she could still hold herself. However, her daughter gave a sort of answer over and over again that she finally couldn’t stand it. The widow then prayed, “oh lord..I can not stand this indignity any longer. My own daughter really has a heart to treat me this bad. I beg you my lord..please punish this rebellious daughter..punish her..” . By the god will, slow but sure, the girl’s body turned into a stone. Started from the legs, and went upto the rest of her body. When half of her body had become a stone, she begged her mother to forgive her. she cried and begged, but it was too late. Finally, her body had all turned. Although she was a stone, people could still see tears dropping from her eyes, and that was why the cursed stone was then called the crying stone.
